Change A Light, Change Michigan!
Changing Michigan starts with simple actions. You can help preserve energy resources, reduce the risks of global warming and save money and time by simply changing your lights in your home and business.
- ENERGY STAR lighting uses 75% less energy and lasts up to 10 times longer than standard incandescent light bulbs, which produce 75 percent heat.
- The higher initial cost of CFL bulbs is more than compensated for by the lower energy consumption over its life. Each bulb saves approximatly $30.00 or more in electricity costs over the lifetime of the bulb.
- Replace your highest used light bulbs with energy-efficient models in the kitchen ceiling, living or family room table and floor lamps, and the ourdoor porch or lamp post. This would be any light that is used for 15 minutes at a time or more a day.
- If every American home replaced their five most frequently used bulbs with an ENERGY STAR bulb, we could save close to $8 billion each year in energy costs, and prevent greenhouses gases equivalent to the emissions from nearly ten million cars.
- Fluorescent (CFL) lights do not go dim or flicker with use. They do require a short warmup period before they reach their full brightness.
- Choose the proper bulb for installation in your fixtures.
